2003.09.03 - PEGC UPDATE ------------------------ Well it seems to be raining briefs these days, and more good ones too. 1) The big news today was that the first petitions for certiorari have been filed with the US Supreme Court. Both are appeals of the decision Al-Odah v. United States in the DC circuit (where the cases were joined). The first is for Al-Odah v. United States (Kuwaiti prisoners): http://PEGC.no-ip.info/archive/Al_Odah_vs_US/Al- Odah_petition_for_cert.pdf The second is for Rasul v. Bush (English and Australian prisoners): http://www.ccr-ny.org/v2/legal/september_11th/docs/RasulCertPetition.pdf 2) Then there are three more amicus briefs in Padilla: ABA, IHL Experts, and Gibbons et al. I have these in my Padilla folder, but the best place to get them is from the National Institute of Military Justice, because their internet connection is faster than mine (mine is just a DSL), and the ABA brief is big (8 mb). I found the Gibbons brief especially interesting becasue the amici include a number of retired US judges. The NIMJ site is at: http://www.nimj.org/home.asp And just look at the center column -- these three briefs are right at the top. Regards, Charly # # #
